How do i get rid of stage freight?
I am a dancer and have been in several dance performances, and i am pretty used to it.
However, I am performing poetry at an open mic night for my first time.
Everyone says they love my poetry, but i am still nervous about getting on stage since it is my first time (poetry wise)
Any advice or personal experiences?
Answer: Just imagine them in their underwear! (Just kidding...)
Seriously, you should practice to make sure you can read your poetry without stumbling. Then, just go up and tell yourself that, for five minutes or whatever, people are listening to YOU. They're here to listen to YOU, and YOU'RE all that matters. Even if you don't believe that, try to convince yourself. The people there are also going to be your friends and family who want you to succeed. If you make a mistake, no one is going to hold you to it. Just take a deep breath and don't rush. Everyone else wants you to do well- maybe even more than you do! I know when I see plays and an actor has a long monologue or a part that I know they usually mess up I hold my breath until it's over because I want them to do well!
